Souskluitjies (Dumplings) Pre-mix – Cinnamon Butter

What You’ll Need:

• 1 Litre Water
• 2 Eggs
• 200g Butter or Margarine
• 2 Cups of Sugar

Cooking Method: This can be cooked on stovetop or in a cast iron pot (adding oil in the pot) on the coals. Make sure you regulate the cooking temperature with coals under pot.

Instructions:

1. Empty and sift Souskluitjies pre-mix into a bowl.
2. Add the soft butter or margarine to flour mix and rub into the flour with your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs.
3. Add sugar sachet provided to the eggs in a bowl and beat very well until fluffy.
4. Add the egg and sugar mix to the butter and flour mix. Mix through lightly with a spoon, don’t over mix.
5. Add 800ml to 1 Litre water in a pot, add teaspoon of salt and teaspoon from the Cinnamon sachet provided, bring to boil.
6. Scoop heaped teaspoons of sough into the boiling water, do not make balls. Turn heat down to simmer at low heat.
7. Put lid on pot and simmer for 15-20 min, make sure the pot does not boil over, remember that it must simmer at low temperature and slow.
8. After 10-15 min remove Souskluitjies with spotted spoon into a serving bowl. Add a few spoons full of the sauce as well.
9. Now mix 2 cups of sugar with the rest of the cinnamon provided and pour over Souskluitjies. Melt butter and drizzle over Souskluitjies.
10. Let it rest for 4-8 min before serving but keep warm. Enjoy!
